Last Monday, the new president Joko Widodo, has signed the agreement approving visa free travel in Indonesia for 30 new countries. Now paying for the visa is null and void for 45 countries in total and our first traveler have already got benefited by this new change.

Visa free travel in Indonesia – The benefited countries

Free visa on arrival was already implemented for member countries of ASEAN, the Association of South East Asian Nations and for Hong Kong, Macau, Chile, Peru, Morocco and Ecuador. Now the total list of countries whose nationals are exempted from $35 visa on arrival costs in Indonesia are:

Singapore, Thailand, Burma, Brunei, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Chile, Morocco, Peru, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Macao, China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain , Oman and South Africa.

All the citizens of these countries including United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, and Switzerland for English speaking countries can stay for 30 days on the Indonesia territory as a tourist trip without paying for visa.

How to obtain a tourist visa for Indonesia?

The Visa free travel in Indonesia

For nationals of the countries mentioned above, no prior notice or document is required to obtain the visa, but only your passport. Make sure your passport has a higher validity date to 6 months after your return to your respective country. You will get your visa by the immigration officer at the counter of the airport upon arrival in Indonesia.

For stays over 30 days in Indonesia

If you have planned for more than 30 days stay, you must request for tourist visa directly from the Indonesian Embassy in your country.

Attention everyone! This gratuitousness does not concern all international airports in Indonesia but only the top 5:

– Jakarta, Soekarno Airport – Hatta

– Bali, Ngurah Rai Airport

– Medan, Kuala Namu Airport

– Surabaya Juanda Airport

– Batam Hang Nadim Airport

For now, if you arrive in Yogyakarta (Java), Makassar and Manado (Sulawesi / Celebes), Labuan Bajo (Komodo) and Mataram (Lombok), you will still have to pay the $35 visa fee. Nevertheless, good numbers of flights have a stopover in one of these five airports.
